The Problem with Goals

The last few days, I’ve been working on our Agent Training Program and figuring out ways to help our agents crush their goals. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about goal-setting, and I think there’s a fundamental problem with goals: Most people set goals that they never end up achieving.

They lose motivation, or they don’t know where to start, or they give up because they don’t see results immediately, or they get “busy” and make excuses, or they simply forget about the goals. The list goes on…

Goals are simply WHAT we want to achieve. SYSTEMS are the HOW. Systems are the specific actions, habits, and processes that turn your goals into a reality. What actions do you need to take daily, weekly, and monthly to hit your goals?

HERE ARE A FEW EXAMPLES

GOAL: Spend less time on email and/or social media
SYSTEM: Time-block 30 minutes twice per day to check email / social media

GOAL: Lose 10 Pounds
SYSTEM: Track all the food you eat + do 30 minutes of physical fitness every day

GOAL: Save $5,000
SYSTEM: Transfer $100 into a Savings Account every week for a year

GOAL: Read more
SYSTEM: Listen to audiobooks when you’re driving and getting ready in the morning

We must create systems for each of our goals to make sure they actually happen! What systems have YOU created in your life? I'd love to hear about them!

ANDERSON ISLAND

I spent last weekend on Anderson Island celebrating #MamaMiller (my wonderful mother). If you haven't been to Anderson Island before, it's a beautiful little island just southwest of Tacoma. It was a perfect weekend!

Check out this video I made on the island, and watch ‘till the end for a story about why I love real estate!

WHAT I’M READING

I just started my 16th book of the year.  I'm a bit behind on my 52-book challenge for this year, considering we're 20 weeks into 2020 😬 Anyone have any SHORT book recommendations?

The Defining Decade by Meg Jay is super interesting so far! Definitely making me rethink how I spend my time.

“While most would agree with Socrates that, "the unexamined life is not worth living," a lesser-known quote by Sheldon Kopp might be more important here: "The unlived life is not worth examining."" - Meg Jay
