Nicaragua

I have officially been in Central America for almost 3 weeks! I spent the first week in Panama, the second week in Costa Rica, and this past week in Nicaragua. I underestimated how awesome each of these countries would be, and I am definitely taking note of where I want to spend more time. I have a special place in my heart for Latin American culture. I love the people, the food, the climate, the music, and so much more. By the end of this trip, I will have traveled to 15 of the 21 counties in Central and South America. I am excited to continue exploring this beautiful part of the world!

I have been studying Spanish on the DuoLingo app every day in May, and I've been trying to communicate solely in Spanish the last few weeks. I am definitely feeling more proficient, but I still have a long way to go. I'm considering starting a Spanish Club when I get back home so that I can continue practicing every week. Let me know if you'd be interested in joining!

San Juan del Sur

San Juan del Sur (aka SJDS) is a beautiful beach town and fishing village on the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. I stayed at a sweet boutique hotel, tore up the streets on my moped (only fell once), hiked up to “Cristo de La Misericordia”, watched live music at a local brewery, and had dinner at a Tree House Hotel. SJDS is a hub for digital nomads with tons of foreigners working remotely by day and enjoying this awesome town by night!

Granada

On Friday, I traveled with a few new friends from San Juan del Sur to Granada, a colonial town on Lago Cocibolca (the largest lake in Nicaragua). We had an action-packed 48 hours. We took a boat tour around the 365 islands in the lake, explored the huge local market, watched the sunset from a bell tower in a 15th century church, ate a “banana burger” (unreal), looked inside an active volcano, and had one of the best meals of my life!
